Actress Leslie Caron owns this charming hotel and restaurant on the banks of the river Yonne at Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, south of Sens on the N6, and close to the A6 in the north of Burgundy.

L’Auberge la Lucarne aux Chouettes, loosely translated, the Owl’s Nest, lies on the banks of the river Yonne in the north of Burgundy. It was twelve years ago when Leslie Caron of ‘Gigi’ fame and her son decided to restore four 17th-century boat warehouses just below the bridge in the centre of Villeneuve-sur-Yonne and turn them into a small hotel and restaurant. These old buildings have been cleverly melded together, mixing the old with the new. The dining room has a huge vaulted ceiling with oak beams, stone walls and an original tiled floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows so that diners can enjoy the river view.

With Leslie’s love of antiques, love of good food and wine and love of people, she has a winning combination. There are four suites, decorated with many personal touches, and lunch and dinner are served on the river terrace or in the dining room. Visit the vineyards and chateaux, take trips on the river and canal, and savour this delightful location.
