Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the best addresses in the wine region of the Côte d’Or in Burgundy. One wing of the château has been turned into five luxury suites so you can stay at the winery itself, day dream as you look over the vineyards, knowing that you are in fact sleeping over the impressive vaulted cellars where all the barrels are stached. A wine tasting of ten Burgundies is included in the price of your stay, and a tasting lunch is on offer with prior notice.

This is not a hotel, it is more a boutique chambres d’hôte approach where breakfast is provided. There are three lounges to relax, a billiard room with hospitality bar but there is no ‘service’ as such to call on, or, for that matter, to disturb you. So, the atmosphere is more relaxed and informal. You can make the place your own with its WiFi, HiFi et al.

The interior is elegant in a contemporary way with its high ceilings and large windows looking onto the priceless vineyards, Art and light colours, avant-garde bathroom fittings and a wacky fireplace designed by furniture maker Jean-Jacques Argueyrolles, a château owner himself in southern Burgundy, give the place its special stamp. Paper lamps by Ingo Maurer, beds by Paolo Piva, Imaf Progetti and Emilio Nanni and Antonio Citterio, and armchairs by Cab de Mario Bellini – namedropping – most certainly! There are rolling art exhibitions in the public rooms to add a point of interest.

A candlelit dinner can be organised for a group of eight or more, so for a special occasion such as a 40th birthday, stay at the château with a bunch of friends and celebrate in style.

The accommodation, including the wine tasting is 250€ per night for a suite.
