| Château de Courban Chatillon-sur-Seine It’s an interior decorator’s dream to have carte blanche to do up a château. Pierre Vandendriessche took up the challenge when he bought Château de Courban, just outside Châtillon-sur-Seine in 1998. The result is impressive: lively colours for the interior from cardinal red to cobalt blue, rich fabrics, perfectly co-ordinated, and attention to detail at every turn.
There are 14 rooms and seven suites to choose from, and the restaurant, La Table du Colombier, was recently added, offering reasonably priced menus. The rooms too are reasonable for this level of accommodation, starting at 75 euros per night for a double. This is a good spot for exploring the Châtillonnais area in northern Burgundy. The region is particularly known for its sparkling wine, and with undulating woodland, it is ideal for walking. Special mention needs to be made to the Treasures of Vix at the museum in Châtillon-sur-Seine, and closeby, the source of the Seine, a tiny piece of Paris in the countryside.
