Here you can follow the dream of gracious living to the full. This privately owned moated château in the little village of Vault de Lugny between Avallon and Vézelay offers a break from reality, an ideal location for a honeymoon or romantic sojourn. To set the scene, try and approach Vault de Lugny from Avallon along the Cousin valley.

This is not a hotel you will just stumble across on your travels, you have to be ‘in the know’. Behind the ornate iron gates lies the 16thC building, surrounded by immaculately kept grounds with a little stream running through. The rooms are sumptuous with drapes and antiques, and the bathrooms, extremely comfortable and luxurious

Dinner is served in the vaulted dining room at one very long wooden table so that you can enjoy the company of fellow guests in a houseparty environment. If the weather is fine, dine al fresco on the terrace. Much of the produce comes from the château’s own veggie garden.

During the day visit the Basilica at Vézelay, go wine tasting at Chablis, and take in Fontenay Abbey. The château has a tennis court and bikes are available to help keep in trim.
