Escamps near Auxerre Sleeps 4-6
This holiday rental home encapsulates French country style - a contemporary sofa and a classic antique rattan dining chair, a chandelier and a recessed spotlight, exposed stone walls and designer fabrics in light, natural tones. You know you are in France, this is pure French chic.
The cottage is situated in the little village of Escamps, 14 km south-west of Auxerre in northern Burgundy. Close to the pretty wine villages of Coulanges-les-Vineuse and St-Bris-le-Vineux, this is an ideal place to relax and a stepping off point for exploring. In spring, the fruit trees are overflowing with blossom, and in summer and autumn the local vines turn from green to gold. Vézelay, Chablis, Guédelon, Château d'Ancy-le-Franc, Auxerre and Noyers-sur-Serein are just a few of the delights in store.
Escamps is small, you can walk around the village in 15 minutes. For local purchases, up the hill is the village of Chevannes which has an award winning boulangerie, small supermarket, chemist, post office, hairdresser and petrol station. A visit to the vibrant Toucy Saturday market is a must.
The village used to be called Escamps St. Germain with roots dating back to the Benedictine Abbey St Germain in Auxerre. The cottage in fact may have belonged to a religious order as a face wearing a habit has been revealed on one outside wall of the house.
The cottage has been sympathetically restored to offer a warm and comfy place to stay with mod cons such as WiFi, TV, a particularly well equipped kitchen and state of the art shower room. There are two double bedrooms, one with a queen size bed, the other with twin beds which can be joined to make a second queen sized bed. In the sitting room, the sofa converts to another double. Outside there is a sunny patio and a fully fenced garden, ideal if you have youngsters.
May, June, July and August inclusive, 700 euros per week (bookings by the week only in July and August, Fri to Fri so you can visit the excellent Saturday morning market in Toucy. Minimum of four nights booking in May and June at nightly rate of 100 euros per night)
