Every year the sky fills with hot air balloons over Chalon-sur-Saone to herald the start of summer. Balloon enthusiasts from all over Europe, meet at the park Prairie St. Nicholas at 06.30 and 18.30 over the weekend to take to the air. This is a magnificent spectacle as 50 or so multicoloured craft prepare the inflation and drift away with the wind.

Balloons have to fly when the weather is right. This means fine days when there is not a strong wind and before or after the thermals, so it is an early start, or an early evening event, perfect for capturing vibrant photos. A majestic and fun-packed event.
