Images of Burgundy and Beyond
the Roads to Santiago de Compostela
The Via Lemovicensis is one of the medieval pilgrim routes from Burgundy to the Pyrenees. This selection of images is taken from 'The Roads to Santiago' by Derry Brabbs - a lavishly illustrated book detailing the major pilgrim routes through France and Spain to the shrine of St James the Apostle in Santiago de Compostela. The starting point is the iconic basilica of Ste-Marie-Madeleine at Vézelay, going on to La Charité-sur-Loire and Bourges. Santiago de Compostela is the third most visited pilgrim destination after Jerusalem and Rome with stunning scenery and many interesting historic buildings en route, and a journey of discovery undertaken by thousands each year.
